The party had just formed a partnership with Elionea the Druid to slay the Land Shark when another adventurer calling himself Mernpool: Monster Hunter came along, tracking the beast. He joined forces with the adventurers for the rest of the hunt.
Elionea used a Songstone to lure the monster, but accidentally summoned a pair of Giant Scorpions as well and the party’s front was divided. The Land Shark and the Giant Scorpions were ultimately slain, but Elionea was killed in the battle.
When the adventurers returned to Karbad with the carcass of the Land Shark, they were met with adulation. At a public celebration festival two days later, Gazande was officially recognized by Duke Alcibes as Lord Gazande of Tazir.
At a discreet meeting, Lord Gazande and Rhodedendron talked with the Duke’s Sage about the strange chess set they had won from the loot of the gypsies. In a match between Paladin and Sage, Rhode witnessed a profound, magical change in the attitude of the winner and the loser, but the mystery of its true origin or purpose remained.
On the road back to Tazir, other party members tried their hands at the game and experienced powerful shifts in their morale, boosted when they won but depressed when they lost. Yet, it felt as if this was only a hint of the true power of the chess set.
During the celebrations in Tazir to officially welcome their new lord, a barn explosion lured the party into a fight with Flameskulls which had emerged from an underground chamber beneath. It turned out to be Lord Biram’s secret treasure vault and included a small magic carpet big enough for one which Raz instantly took for herself.
