The Story So Far….

The First Adventure

august 31, 2020

Beckett the Half-Elf Bard, Bizmuth the Dragonborn Barbarian, Feydris the Dwarf Cleric and Shaeomar the Half-Elf Warlock came together in the town of Avritzia, drawn by the promise of 300 gold pieces for the head of an Ogre known to be menacing the countryside near the village of Pygel, on the border of Elfland Forest.

The party headed to Pygel and then followed the trail to an abandoned Old Keep in a marshy wooded area where the song of a Harpy lured Shaeomar and Beckett toward the gates across a rotten drawbridge. Feydris managed to tackle Beckett and put a few loops of rope around the bard, but Shaeomar fell through the planking into the moat where two crocodiles lurked. He was rescued by Bizmuth while Beckett wriggled free of the rope.

That was when the Harpy attacked, but she fled when the odds shifted hard against her, only to be shot out of the sky by the combined damage of Bizmuth’s javelin and Feydris’ magic spells. The adventurers claimed her head as a trophy before Bizmuth and Shaeomar went investigating the Old Keep, leaving Feydris and Beckett to rest, only to have to come to the rescue of the barbarian and the warlock when they got into a fight with a giant constrictor snake.

After taking a short rest together, the foursome decided to head down to the dungeon level. Feydris went first, but her dwarven instincts alerted her to a collapsing ceiling trap rigged up by Goblins who laired there with some giant rats. After triggering it on purpose, she led the party into the dungeon, where an Ogre joined the fray.

The fight was almost fatal for the adventurers but they managed to prevail. In the dungeon, they found a chest full of coins as well as a huge dragon egg and decided to rest for the night before deciding what to do with such a large object. In the morning, a Black Wyrmling hatched from it and crawled out, demanding to be served by the mortals, specifically wanting to dine on the dwarf for its first meal. When it made a move against Feydris, she killed it instantly with a critical attack.

The adventurers dismembered the dragon for trophies, adding its head to those of the ogre and harpy, before making their way back to civilization, first Pygel and then Avritzia. Baron Trexlar happily paid them the reward of 300 gold pieces and they were hailed as heroes, especially with the rousing tale Beckett was able to spin out of their harrowing experience.

The southwest quarter of Hyracanum is where the Realm of Leiara can be found. It is a land pitched into civil war in the wake of King Huron’s disappearance. Nobody knows if the king has been assassinated or has abdicated and fled, but his three daughters, Vessinia, Orregil and Merran, are at war with each other for supremacy of the land.

The realm is roughly divided into three regions, each one loyal to a different princess. The northernmost region, Vessinia, is locked in active war with Orregil and both have an uneasy truce with southerly Merran, which has dominion over certain islands of the Kaboska Sea. Merran covers the southern sweep of the realm but also maintains a strategic foothold on the north side of the Bay of Leiara and it borders Eramosk, the Silent Kingdom.

Divided as it is by civil war, the realm is increasingly open to outside threats, such as the orc menace east of the Stettland Plains, the sahuagin who harass Leiara’s Sea Barons or the machinations of neighbouring kingdoms Tamilia and Eramosk. Tamilia has gone so far as arranging a marriage between Crown Prince Reguile and Princess Vessinia.
