The adventurers went all-in against the Canoloth and overcame the highly resistant monster after a long, protracted combat. Once dead, it melted away to nothing, as all monsters from other planes do.
Raz picked the lock on the door and it opened onto a 10’ square flagstone floor with stairs ascending to the left and descending to the right. All around the staircase was nothing but limitless black void. A similar landing and door were located about fifty feet along the stairs in either direction. The lower door led to an luxurious apartment somewhere in Bendajee. There, the party took some scrolls and a silver coffer filled with emeralds but, at the sound of footsteps, they rushed back through the door to the Infinite Staircase.
The upper door was ominously designed in black and steel and led to a vast hall of black marble where the water appeared to flow backwards. Investigating further, the party found a middle-aged Human slave who became very agitated by their presence. Then, four Mezzoloths showed up and chased the party back to the Infinite Staircase where battle raged up and down the steps until the adventurers won, but it was a very close fight.
During a rest, Sargael and William looked at the scrolls and found a contract written in Infernal language between Jackerel, Charna Khan and Duke Veljan Bendajee detailing a payment plan dealing with souls.
